Capstone Partners Successfully Advised OPNET Technologies, Inc.

Boston, MA – Capstone Partners LLC, a national middle-market investment banking advisory firm, announced today that it has successfully advised OPNET Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPNT), a leading provider of management software for networks and applications, on its recent acquisition of Altaworks Corporation, a provider of application performance solutions based in Nashua, New Hampshire. As a result of this transaction, Altaworks becomes a wholly-owned subsidiary of OPNET. Capstone Partners served as the exclusive financial advisor to OPNET on this transaction.

Tim Harned, a Managing Director and Co-Head of Capstone’s Technology Investment Banking Group commented, “This transaction fits well with OPNET’s legacy of providing powerful solutions for highly complex networks. Combating application performance issues is paramount to any IT infrastructure and the Commander and Panorama product lines will serve to provide OPNET customers with even more options as they build-out and manage their infrastructure. Identifying complementary, highly-engineered products built with great intellectual clout continues to be a cornerstone of OPNET’s acquisition strategy and the addition of the Altaworks team fits comfortably within that strategic directive.”

“Every day, our customers rely on networked applications to operate their organizations effectively. Preventing and troubleshooting application performance problems are among the most challenging issues they face. We are excited about the potential for deeper and more proactive analysis that will result from the combination of OPNET’s and Altaworks’ unique technologies. The Altaworks technology will be integrated into our portfolio of solutions following OPNET’s usual open-systems approach, allowing users to leverage data from their preferred performance management solutions” stated Alain Cohen, OPNET’s President & CTO.

“Stronger analysis of application and infrastructure behavior is necessary to embark on automated problem and incident resolution and to aid in the optimization of business services,” said Glenn O’Donnell, program director at META Group, a leading provider of IT research, advisory services and strategic consulting. “Modeling is creeping beyond capacity planning into more generalized management systems because the information provided is necessary to cope with the evolving complexity of IT services.”
